History

1912

IUEC Local 37, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, was chartered on April 5, 1912. By 1924, the local had hired its first Business Agent, demonstrating the increase in demand for skilled elevator constructors at that time in the region.

1970s-1980s

In 1986, then Business Agent, James Fielding, donated all of the local’s records from 1925-1972 to the Ohio Historical Society. This shows that the work carried out by local 37’s members has long since been of great importance to the safe functioning of elevators in the community. Since the 1970s, the largest project that the local has been involved with has been at Ohio State University. The campus has about 700 units and the OSU hospital has over 250 more additional units, all of which are worked on by Local 27 members.

Today

Today, Local 37 covers an area of about 75 miles in radius around Columbus. With over 200 members, almost 100 retired members, and serving 29 counties, it’s safe to say that Local 37 will continue to have a positive impact in the region for years to come.
